Projects

Over the past 6 years, I have had the great privilege to work on some cutting-edge and incredibly impactful work. These projects are just a glimpse into my toolkit and how I engage in research across the lifecycle of a project or product to bring it to life in a meaningful way.

Scaling Research

In many software/technology companies, the tides have turned and now the demand for research outpaces supply. Time-strapped teams have to do more research with “less” and large, rapidly-growing research teams have increasing need for operational support and efficiency. This environment has contributed to the rise of two key trends that I explored in this generative research project:

+ Democratization of research, this notion that not only card-carrying researchers can conduct research, but also their cross-functional teammates

+ Research Operations and the out-sourcing of certain research tasks to a dedicated team or person â€‹

Uptake Wind

In a Proof of Model (POM) with Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE), I led the foundational research in which we uncovered the use cases for how we would serve BHE using data analytics to make their renewable energy operations more efficient and scalable. My research goals were to:

  • Understand the overall wind farm ecosystem

  • Identify user needs and how they correspond to business needs/obligations

  • Identify opportunities to differentiate this POM product

Flight Paths

Flight Paths: Mapping Our Changing Neighborhoods, is a multi-media initiative to help participants, both regionally in Northwest Indiana and nationally, engage and analyze factors contributing to the fracturing of urban neighborhoods, communities, and regions in post-industrial America.

Flight Paths is an interactive map and storytelling tool funded by the National Endowment for Humanities NEH). My role in its on-going creation was to:

  • Design and lead all research studies from initial focus groups to in-person usability tests.

  • Create design briefs for iterations based on feedback.
